MENTORING

Who is mentoring for?

Mentoring can be useful for anyone writing a book. It’s especially useful if:

  1. You want to write a book but don’t know how to start or what sort of shape or structure would work for your ideas.

  2. You want to write but the years keep rolling by and you never seem to have enough time, nor a writing routine or any element of accountability.

  3. You’re working on a manuscript and are stuck and need clarity on where you may have gone astray along with some inspiration and encouragement.

  4. You’ve completed a project and aren’t sure of why you’re struggling to find a literary agent/publisher.

How is mentoring done?

I meet the writers I work with once a week or once a fortnight. This generally takes place on Zoom as I work with writers all over the world. After an introductory discussion about their work, we will fix a time and the writer will send me some work for me to look at before their session - I’m happy to read up to 10,000 words. I will then meet them on Zoom with notes and edits on their work and discuss with them, looking at strengths, weaknesses and ways to take it forward to the finish line!

If my author is stuck and hasn’t produced any work, we will discuss the source of the problem and I will take them through some exercises on how to develop the part they’re struggling with.

While I cannot by any means guarantee a literary agent or a publishing deal, I’m happy to introduce authors to relevant people in the industry when their work feels ready.
